Nu de cruciale stemming in het Huis van Afgevaardigden over de wet voor de gezondheidzorg steeds dichterbij komt spreken steeds meer afgevaardigden zich publiekelijk uit of ze voor of tegen de wet zijn. Democratische afgevaardigde van Ohio, John Boccieri, maakte bekend dat hij toch voor de wet zal stemmen. Boccieri stemde vorig jaar nog tegen de wet die het Huis aannam. “When I think…what could happen to those 39,000 people in my congressional district who don’t have health care insurance, or the 9,800 people in my congressional district who are living with pre-existing conditions”, aldus Boccieri, “they are one medical emergency, one bankruptcy, one diagnosis away from complete and utter economic chaos.” Boccieri is in Ohio onder druk gezet om te veranderen van standpunt.

Afgevaardigde van Connecticut, Joe Courtney, die nog niet had besloten om voor of tegen te stemmen, maakte tegenover CNN bekend dat hij de wet zal steunen. “We’ve spent the last 24 hours reviewing the package, which was finally released yesterday afternoon as well as the [Congressional Budget Office’s] score”, aldus de Democraat tegenover CNN, “and I’m satisfied that there are adequate changes made to the Senate bill, the base bill, that address the issues that kept me in the undeclared column.”

De Republikeinse fractievoorzitter van het Huis, John Boehner, nam de Democratische wet op de korrel in de wekelijkse radio en internet toespraak van de GOP. Boehner: “Democrats in Washington chose a partisan path and a costly, big-government agenda. It’s clear where the American people stand. They want no part of this bill, and they haven’t been shy about saying so. We’ve seen standing room only crowds at town hall meetings”, aldus Boehner. “Rallies in towns and cities around the country. And now, jammed phone lines on Capitol Hill. All of this coming from citizens yelling ‘stop’ at the top of their lungs”, aldus de Republikeinse fractievoorzitter. “But Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrat Leaders are too blinded by their ‘Washington knows best’ attitude, too out-of-touch with the concerns of working families, to listen”, aldus Boehner.
