De Republikeinse kandidaat voor een senaatszetel in Delaware, Christine O’Donnell, zei afgelopen week dat God de reden was dat “she didn’t give up on politics” na haar mislukte poging in 2008 om in de Senaat te komen. “God continued to strengthen and empower us”, aldus O’Donnell tegenover de Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). “If it weren’t for faith when all logic said it’s time to quit, we pursued, we marched on because we knew God was not releasing us to quit.”
O’Donnell, die zegt dat ze niet meer met de landelijke media spreekt, krijgt wel aandacht van diezelfde landelijke media door haar controversiële uitspraken die ze in de jaren ’90 deed. In het programma “The Brody File” van CBN zei O’Donnell dat ze “the Constitution to be the litmus test for all legislation.” “If that were the case, we wouldn’t have Obama care, we wouldn’t have cap-and-trade, we wouldn’t have this financial so-called reform”, aldus O’Donnell. O’Donnell neemt het in november op tegen de Democratische kandidaat Chris Coons.
