Bush, zegt dat de Republikeinen nog een lange weg hebben te gaan voordat er een Republikeinse presidentskandidaat is in 2012. “There are going to be several geological ages that are going to come and go before the 2012 presidential nomination gels”, aldus Karl Rove, de voormalige adviseur van president George W. Bush tegenover “Face the Nation” van CBS. “Every one of these prospective candidates, if they decide to enter the race, has strengths that they need to work on magnifying and weaknesses that they need to endeavor to overcome.”

En hoe zit het met Sarah Palin? Heeft zij kans om president te worden? “I don’t know whether she’s going to run or not, and if she runs she would be a formidable candidate”, aldus Rove. Rove legde ook zijn mening uit over de Tea Party beweging, nadat de radiopresentator Rush Limbaugh hem bekritiseerde dat hij Tea Party “unsophisticated” noemde. “These are not people who are skilled in the ways of Washington. They don’t want to be. They’re ordinary Americans from Main Street America who have created a massive grassroots effort driven by a sentiment in this country”, aldus Rove. “I consider it to be wholesome, patriotic and incredibly positive for the country.” Rove denkt dat de grote opkomst die hij op 2 november verwacht voor een groot deel te wijten is aan de populariteit van Tea Party activisten.
