Lieveling van de Tea Party beweging en voormalig Republikeinse vice-presidentskandidaat, Sarah Palin, heeft zich tot doel gesteld om de Republikeinse partij en establishment en de Tea Party beweging bij elkaar te brengen. “I think now is a time for a drive towards unity”, aldus Palin afgelopen week na de grote overwinning van de GOP tijdens de tussentijdse verkiezingen voor het Congres. “And I think that it will work because there’s a common mission here with Tea Party Americans and with the GOP establishment”, aldus Palin tegenover Fox News.

De voormalige gouverneur van Alaska zei dat de conservatieve Tea Party beweging die nu een rol speelt in de landelijke politiek en Republikeinse establishment een gezamenlijke agenda hebben. “The desire is for a smaller, smarter government, it is to rein in the federal government and allow our states more rights and our individuals more rights, ultimately resulting in the private sector being able to grow again”, aldus Palin.

Palin, die veel conservatiever is dan het Republikeinse establishment en veelvuldig tijdens de Tea Party Express optrad en haar steun uitsprak voor veel “Tea Party kandidaten”, zoals Nikki Haley en Christine O’Donnell, gaf toe dat de twee partijen bij elkaar brengen niet eenvoudig zal zijn. “Now it’s a matter of coming together, the different personalities. There will be essentially a few new sheriffs in town, so there could be some, you know, some roughness around the edges when it comes to this team coming together. But it’s a time for unity after tonight.”

Tegenover CNN zei Palin onlangs dat de GOP de Tea Party beweging nodig heeft en ze waarschuwde het Republikeinse establishment (zie bericht Palin: “Zonder Tea Party geen GOP”). “I don’t think that it will [split the GOP apart] because I think more of the machine within the GOP is going to understand that this we-the-people message is rising and it’s resonating throughout with independents, with hardcore conservatives, with moderates. Because it’s just so full of common sense…that heaven forbid that the GOP machine strays from this message. If so, the GOP is through”, aldus Palin toen.
