De Republikeinse afgevaardigde van Minnesota en Tea Party lieveling, Michele Bachmann zal als ze de Republikeinse presidentiele nominatie wint en van president Obama wint slechts één termijn president van de VS zijn. Bachmann is er van overtuigd dat 4 jaar genoeg zijn “to turn things around.”

“I’m a principled reformer, and my goal is to see the country turn around”, aldus Bachmann tegenover de Des Moines Register, een krant in Iowa. “I’m also committed to being a one-term president if that’s what it takes in order to turn things around, because this is not about a personal ambition. It’s about getting our financial house in order and to become respected again in the world on an international scale”, aldus Bachmann. Wie tussen de regels door leest ziet wat Bachmann zegt “if that’s what it takes…”, wat dus inhoudt dat als het niet in 4 jaar lukt, ze zeker voor een tweede termijn zal gaan.

Bachmann deed de uitspraken tijdens een toespraak die ze gaf voor de sociale conservatieven in Pella, in de Hawkeye State.
