Na dat Tea Party lieveling Sarah Palin afgelopen week tijdens een Tea Party bijeenkomst in Iowa, sprak ze op Labor Day tot een Tea Party menigte in Manchester, New Hampshire. Hoewel Palin zich presenteerde als de beste kandidaat om het Witte Huis te winnen, gaf de kiezers niet wat ze wilden.

“Run, Sarah, run”, riep een grote menigte toen Palin lachte. Sommige mensen riepen haar naam op een manier dat je meestal bij popsterren ziet, aldus CNN. Maar Palin is tegenwoordig meer een celebrity dan een serieuze politica.

Maar net als in Iowa, maakte Palin niet bekend dat ze mee doet aan de race om de Republikeinse nominatie. De kans dat ze uiteindelijk toch besluit mee te doen wordt steeds onwaarschijnlijker.

In plaats daarvan richtte ze haar kritiek op president Obama in een toespraak waar ze uit haalde wat Tea Party aanhangers willen horen, zoals dat Washington “politics as usual” is.

Palin uitte ook kritiek op Mitt Romney, die zijn campagne tactiek aanpaste en op een aantal Tea Party bijeenkomsten sprak. “Now, we’re seeing more and more folks realize the strength of this grass-roots movement”, aldus Palin. “And they’re wanting to be involved. I say right on. Better late than never – for some of these candidates especially. Okay?”

Het publiek tijdens de toespraak van Palin was veel groter dan bij Romney de avond daar voor. Het grootste gedeelte van het publiek vertrok nadat Palin had gesproken, ondanks dat de bijeenkomst door ging.

“I say let’s invite those candidates in who are bold enough to take on the tough challenges caused by an out of touch, out-of-control centralized government, and those who are humble enough to admit they need you, and they’ve seen the light, they who are willing to confront the challenges that are resulting from Washington’s failed policies, and incompetent leadership”, aldus de voormalige gouverneur van Alaska.

“You’ve already withstood the wrath and the disdain and the lies from the media and the permanent political class looking down on us. Mocking us. Making things up about us. telling us to ‘go to hell,’ you’ve already withstood that”, aldus Palin. “We’re still standing, right?”
