Ondanks het feit dat Mike Huckabee boven aan de lijst staat van potentiële kandidaten voor de presidentiële nominatie van de Republikeinse partij, blijft de voormalige gouverneur van Arkansas rustig en zwijgzaam over een eventuele tweede poging om in het Witte Huis te komen. In een interview met het programma “Good Morning America” van ABC zei Huckabee afgelopen week dat het proces over een beslissing om mee te doen “is grueling” en hij waarschuwde dat het erg lastig wordt voor de Republikeinse kandidaat om president Obama te verslaan.

“It is a very grueling process”, aldus Huckabee. “I think the fact that I’ve done it before gives me both a sense of gravity toward the process, but it also gives me an understanding that it’s not always smart to be the first guy out of the corral and out there in the arena riding around on your pony by yourself.”

Huckabee zei dat het lastig wordt ongeacht welke Republikein de GOP nominatie wint. “You don’t beat presidents easily”, aldus Huckabee. “And this idea that he’s just an absolute one-term and easy to beat – this race is going to be like climbing a ladder, pointing toward you, because Barack Obama is going to start this race with a billion dollars, he’s going to have no primary opponent. The Republicans are going to have a crowded field, all elbowing their way under the basket for the layup, and it’s not going to be a layup”, aldus de voormalige gouverneur. “It’s going to be a tough shot?
