The former Democratic governor of Ohio joined with several other governors in 2008 to push to save the auto industry. Gov. Ted Strickland on today’s news from Chrysler: “I think it’s important for us on this great day to acknowledge the fact that there were a lot of naysayers—and many of them want to be president—but it was Barack Obama who provided the leadership to make this day possible.”
In near unanimity, Republicans opposed Obama administration efforts to ensure the survival of our auto industry and the millions of American jobs it supports. It’s a good thing Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich, and other leading Republicans weren’t in charge when the American auto industry was in crisis—they would have simply “let Detroit go bankrupt.”
