De Republikeinse voorzitter van de commissie Financiën, Paul Ryan, die nu veel in het nieuws is vanwege zijn begroting waar in de hervorming van Medicare onder vuur ligt, gaf afgelopen week aan dat hij niet de ambitie heeft om president te worden in 2012, maar de Republikeinse fractievoorzitter van het Huis, Eric Cantor, zei tegen journalisten dat hij graag ziet dat Ryan mee doet aan de race om de GOP nominatie.

Na dat gouverneur van Indiana, Mitch Daniels, aan gaf dat hij niet mee doet zei Cantor dat de kandidaten die nu mee doen “are strong candidates”, maar zei dat “it’s early still.” “These campaigns will begin to focus as the primary season nears.”

Gevraagd of hij graag ziet dat Ryan mee doet zei Cantor “sure” en hij prees Ryan vervolgens. “Paul’s about real leadership – that’s what this public so desperately wants to do right now is they want to see Washington that will lead. They don’t want to see individuals dismiss the current problems as something that we can just sweep under the rug.” Lees meer hier.
