De voorzitter van het Huis van Afgevaardigden, John Boehner, zei afgelopen week dat de Amerikaanse bevolking is “a bit weary” over de oorlog in Afghanistan, maar waarschuwde president Obama tegen een “precipitous withdrawal” van Amerikaanse troepen, omdat de VS nu zo veel geïnvesteerd heeft in Afghanistan.

“Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle reflect the opinions of attitudes of their constituents, and the American people are a bit weary about Afghanistan and you can’t blame them”, aldus Boehner. Boehner zei dat de missie in Afghanistan moet zorgen dat het land geen schuilplaats wordt voor Al Qaeda om aanslagen tegen de VS te plannen en daarom is het belangrijk om in Afghanistan te blijven. “We’ve got an awful lot invested here. I’m concerned about any precipitous withdrawal of our troops that would jeopardize the success that we’ve made”, aldus Boehner. Lees meer hier.
