De campagne van Newt Gingrich om de Republikeinse presidentsnominatie in 2012 te winnen eindigde al tijdens de voorverkiezingen, maar het was wellicht niet de laatste campagne van Gingrich. Gingrich werd gevraagd in het programma “Meet the Press” van NBC of hij nog een keer een poging gaat wagen om in het Witte Huis te komen. Hij lachte en zei: “I doubt that, but one never knows.”

Een belangrijke factor is de potentiële Democratische kandidaat in 2016. Gingrich zei dat als Hillary Clinton besluit mee te doen het voor de Republikeinen moeilijk wordt om haar te verslaan. “If their competitor in ’16 is going to be Hillary Clinton, supported by Bill Clinton and presumably a still relatively popular President Barack Obama, trying to win that will be truly the Super Bowl”, aldus de voormalige voorzitter van het Huis. “And the Republican Party today is incapable of competing at that level.”

“She is very formidable as a person. A very confident person”, aldus Gingrich. “She is married to the most popular Democrat in the country. They both think it would be good for her to be president. That makes it virtually impossible to stop her for the nomination, I think”, aldus Gingrich. Lees meer hier.
