Congres keurt levering wapens aan Syrische oppositie goed

President Obama bedankte afgelopen week beide partijen in het Congres voor het goed keuren van steun en middelen om een militaire actie te ondernemen tegen ISIS. “I want to thank leaders in Congress for the speed and seriousness with which they approached this issue”, aldus Obama. De Senaat stemde met 78 stemmen voor en 22 stemmen tegen de resolutie die geld beschikbaar stelt om de Syrische rebellen te bewapenen voor hun strijd tegen ISIS. De beslissing van het Congres is het bewijs dat “when you harm our citizens, when you threaten the United States – it doesn’t divide us. It unites us”, aldus Obama.
