Biden zei dat hij de kans om vice-president te worden accepteerde “on condition that he would be an important consultant and confidante to Obama.” “He’s kept his end of the bargain”, aldus de vice-president over Obama en Biden beschreef zichzelf als “one of the last people who has the opportunity to make my case to him.” “I think he respects my opinion”, aldus Biden. Biden gaf een concreet voordeel van het feit dat hij vice-president is. “I used to react to nominees to the Supreme Court; now I got to help select a Supreme Court nominee”, aldus Biden refererend aan de nominatie van Sonia Sotomayor voor het hooggerechtshof door president Obama.
