Sanders wint caucuses

Bernie Sanders is de winnaar van de caucuses die plaats vonden in Alaska, Washington en Hawaï. De Democraten hielden de caucuses in deze staten. De Republikeinen hebben in Alaska en Hawaï al eerder gehouden.

Sanders won de caucuses met overmacht van Hillary Clinton. In Alaska kreeg Sanders maar liefst 81 procent van de stemmen, tegenover 18 procent voor Clinton in Washington haalde Sanders 72 procent van de stemmen en in Hawaï haalde de senator van Vermont 69 procent van de stemmen.

Sanders doet bij caucuses beter dan Clinton. Zo won Sanders eerder al de caucuses in Nebraska en Minnesota. Clinton doet het beter bij de primaries. Ze won onlangs Arizona, maar verloor de caucuses in Utah en Idaho van Sanders.

Bernie Sanders zei in zijn overwinningsspeech dat “we have, with your support, a path to victory.” Hij heeft nu weer het momentum.

Clinton en Trump bouwen voorsprong uit

Hillary Clinton en Donald Trump wonnen allebei de voorverkiezingen in Arizona. Bij de Republikeinen was Arizona een winner take all staat en won Trump dus alle 58 gedelegeerden. Hillary Clinton versloeg Bernie Sanders met ruime cijfers in Arizona. Clinton kreeg 58 procent van de stemmen en Sanders kreeg 40 procent van de stemmen.

Bernie Sanders won wel de caucuses in Idaho en Utah. In de caucuses doet Sanders het beter dan Clinton. Ondanks het verlies van Clinton in Idaho en Utah bouwt zij haar voorsprong uit. Arizona was de hoofdprijs. Clinton heeft nu 1681 gedelegeerden, terwijl Sanders er slechts 927 heeft.

Hillary Clinton noemde in haar overwinningstoespraak Donald Trump en Ted Cruz. Ze beschuldigde hen van “leaders who incite more fear.” Clinton zei: “In the face of terror, America doesn’t panic, we don’t build walls or turn our back on our allies!”

Trump won Arizona, maar verloor Utah waar Cruz won. Cruz haalde 69 procent van de stemmen en kreeg daar door alle gedelegeerden, 40 in totaal. Trump verloor dan wel ruim van Cruz in Utah, maar door zijn winst in Arizona bouwt hij zijn voorsprong op Cruz uit. John Kasich kwam gisteren niet in het stuk voor. Hij haalde in Arizona net de 10 procent.
