Vrouwelijke president
De Republikeinse afgevaardigde van Minnesota, Michele Bachmann, denkt dat veel Amerikanen “aren’t ready” voor een vrouwelijke president. “I don’t think there is a pent-up desire”, aldus Bachmann in een interview. Bachmann spreekt uit ervaring. In 2012 deed Bachmann een poging om de Republikeinse presidentiële nominatie te winnen, maar stopte al na de eerste voorverkiezing waar ze als laatste eindigde. Als Hillary Clinton in 2016 mee doet, moeten er volgens Bachmann twee dingen gedaan worden. “Remind people [Clinton] is seeking to become commander in chief [and] how she has operated in the past with these types of responsibilities.” Bachmann doelde op de aanval op het Amerikaanse consulaat in Benghazi. “If a person reads the Senate Intelligence [Committee] report and the House Foreign Affairs [Committee] report released [last] week, it is damning for Hillary Clinton.” Als Clinton zou worden gekozen “effectively she would be Obama’s third and fourth term in office”, aldus Bachmann en noemde Clinton “the godmother of Obamacare.” Lees meer hier.
Michelle Obama: “Pas op voor Malia”
Michelle Obama heeft een waarschuwing voor de inwoners van Washington D.C.: “Watch out, Malia is coming.” De oudste dochter van de Obama’s zal volgend jaar, als ze 16 wordt, rijlessen nemen. Populariteit Clinton
De populariteit van Hillary Clinton is goed. Volgens een peiling van Gallup heeft een meerderheid van de Amerikanen een positief beeld van Clinton. Een meerderheid van 59 procent van de Amerikanen heeft een positief beeld, terwijl 37 procent een negatief beeld van haar heeft. Toen Clinton nog minister van Buitenlandse Zaken was schommelde haar populariteit rond de 65 procent. Dat percentage is gedaald tot iets onder de 60 procent toen ze in 2013 vertrok. Clinton is de grootste kanshebber om de Democratische presidentiële nominatie te winnen, als ze besluit in 2016 mee te doen. Texas promoten
Een onafhankelijke groep die de gouverneur van Texas, Rick Perry, steunt lanceert een nieuw televisiespotje in Illinois om bedrijven te lokken om zich te vestigen in Texas. In het spotje staat Perry voor de camera en promoot de Lone Star staat die “business-friendly tax” is en een ‘regulatory climate’ heeft. Het spotje is gericht op Texas, maar is het wellicht een promotie voor 2016? Lees meer hier.
