Christie: “Ik wist van niets”
De gouverneur van New Jersey, Chris Christie, die onder vuur ligt vanwege het schandaal om rijbanen te sluiten op de George Washington brug om een politieke vendetta uit te vechten, herhaalde afgelopen week in een interview met een radiostation nogmaals dat hij niets wist van het sluiten van de rijbanen. Hij hoorde er pas over toen het in de media verscheen. Op dit moment wordt er een onderzoek ingesteld naar ‘Bridgegate’ zoals het schandaal wordt genoemd, of Christie er van wist en wat zijn medewerkers hebben gedaan. Fox News niet eerlijk
De conservatieve televisiezender Fox News, die in uitzendingen vaak president Obama hevig bekritiseerd en hem van alles beschuldigd is volgens Obama “of course unfair in its attacks”, zo zei de president in een interview dat op Fox News werd uitgezonden. Obama werd geïnterviewd door de conservatieve presentator Bill O’Reilly, waarin hij Obama scherp ondervroeg over de Affordable Care Act, het schandaal rondom de belastingdienst (IRS) die conservatieve groepen extra onderzocht en de aanval op het Amerikaanse consulaat in Benghazi, Libië. Derde wereld vliegveld
De luchthaven LaGuardia in New York die bekend staat vanwege de drukke terminals en andere problemen en wat leidt tot grote vertragingen lijkt volgens vice-president Joe Biden op een derde wereld land. Tijdens een bijeenkomst in Philadelphia vergeleek Biden het vliegveld LaGuardia met een “third world country.” De burgemeester van New York, Bill de Blasio, was boos zei dat de uitspraak van Biden “not his finest moment” was. Regering erkent homohuwelijk
De minister van Justitie, Eric Holder, zei afgelopen week dat de federale overheid het homohuwelijk zal erkennen, ook in de 34 staten waar het homohuwelijk illegaal is, aldus CNN. Het homohuwelijk is al legaal in onder andere New Hampshire, Connecticut, Iowa en Vermont. Holder is van plan om een memo te tekenen waarin het homohuwelijk overal wordt erkend en dat het huwelijk tussen mensen van hetzelfde geslacht erkend is “to the greatest extent possible under the law.” Lees meer hier.
